Sunday Worship

Attendance and Style of Worship
On any given Sunday there are about 60 persons in attendance for the Sunday meeting.  We sing hymns in four parts, we read scripture and poems, there is usually a sermon given by our pastor or one of the participants of our community.  There is a children’ s teaching and a time for congregational sharing and prayers.  Every second Sunday we share a potluck meal together, and every quarter participants are invited to attend a congregational meeting.  People dress informally; all visitors are welcomed and are given care and attention.  We often follow the lectionary during the seasons of Advent and Lent, and the rest of the year we follow themes from scripture and life.

Music
Music has an important role in drawing us into the act of worship. We love our hymns, traditional and new, sung a capella or with accompaniment. Four-part singing beautifully models our sense of Christian community. It requires cooperation, love, acceptance of difference and humility. It requires us to admit we need each other, are better in community and that difference doesn’t need to mean discord but can actually produce harmony.

For hymns, we use Hymnal: A Worship Book, which is available online.  We also use the companion resources, Sing the Story and Sing the Journey.

Nursery is available after the children’s teaching.
